The finite element method is a powerful and general numerical used to simulate subsurface processes. In this paper, we take recent hydraulic fracturing propagation algorithms assess their performance when within the framework. particular, evaluate aperture energy-based methodologies that are capable of extracting velocity fracture propagating throughout toughness viscous regime. Such have benefit quicker convergence on front. aperture-based methodology consists multi-scale asymptote yet be applied with elements. On other-hand, recently developed procedure for predicting from energy release rate, which calculated using J-integral devised fracturing. A comparison accuracy number iterations required converge length undertaken, found produce similar results both methods.
